Meet Your Endocannabinoid System: The Neglected Part of Your Body Causing Imbalance

Hello. I’m Dr. Phil Slonkosky, Chief Science Geek here at Integrative Health Supplements. And in this video, I want to help you understand what the Endocannabinoid System is.
CBD is in the main stream. It’s everywhere. And the reason that it’s everywhere is because in the early 1990s, they discovered different receptors in our body that were responding to cannabinoids, CBD and THC.
So they named these receptors in our body the endocannabinoid system, because they were responding to cannabinoids; those compounds coming from the cannabis plant.
So this endocannabinoid system is now another system of the body – just like you have a respiratory system, a nervous system, a digestive system…well, now you have to walk around knowing that, well, I have an endocannabinoid system.
And what’s so amazing is what research has shown us – that this endocannabinoid system is actually tied to everything. The CB1 receptors for example, are located heavily in the brain, but also throughout our body.
But being so centralized in the brain, when CBD and THC interact with it, you start getting different effects.
I mean, the THC interacts with the CB1 receptor and that’s what gives people the high. But when you have CBD working with it, it can help decrease inflammation in the brain.
It could help certain cells regulate better. One of the things they’ve discovered that’s incredible about the Endocannabinoid system is that it helps our body maintain balance. When our bodies are in a state of disease or a state of stress, they become imbalanced.
If you think about it, the entire supplement market that’s out there is all based on the fact that our body, in order to be healthy, needs to be put in balance, but because we don’t eat the right foods or ingest the right stuff, we need to supplement with these vitamins and minerals to bring things into balance.
Well, our endocannabinoid system is the system that helps the entire body regulate that. So when you see reports or research that shows that the endocannabinoid system, or I’m sorry, that CBD can affect everything, Well, it’s because the endocannabinoid system is tied to everything.
Now, as research continues to develop, we will be able to better specify what type of receptors work with what diseases and so forth. But right now, what’s making CBD and hemp oil so popular is that the body, no matter what as a whole, wants to get back to balance. So if you start balancing one part, the other part wants to get there too.
So in summary, the endocannabinoid system is an amazing discovery of our human body and it’s been there since the beginning of time. And what we’re learning is that the endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating and holding everything together and driving it towards balance. Otherwise known as homeostasis, but think of it as balance.
And if you’re deficient, if you have a disease state that is causing a deficiency in your own internal endocannabinoid system, that’s where CBD and hemp oil can come into play. Because one thing to remember is that because we have our own system, this endocannabinoid system, our body actually makes its own cannabinoids.
That’s what’s even more incredible, is that we’ve had our own internal cannabinoids our entire life. But again, in any disease state, you get an imbalance.
So it’s exciting what the future holds. I hope this video has helped you understand a little bit more about what the endocannabinoid system is and the promise it holds for the future. So if you found this informative, leave us some feedback. If there’s any other questions you have, please ask them because again, it’s your questions and your feedback that continue to help us learn more and be better.
