Meet Your Endocannabinoid System

CBD is hugely popular right now. And it’s popular because, in the nineties, medical professionals made a pretty big discovery.

The Endocannabinoid System

They discovered different receptors in our bodies that were responding to cannabinoids, CBD and THC. They named these receptors in our body the endocannabinoid system because they were responding to cannabinoids, compounds coming from the cannabis plant.

This endocannabinoid system is now another system of the body – just like you have a respiratory system, a nervous system, a digestive system. But you’re never going to know how to take care of it, if you don’t understand it. And it needs to be taken care of. Let’s take a look at why.

Balance

Research has shown us that this endocannabinoid system is actually tied to everything. The CB1 receptors, for example, are located heavily in the brain, but also throughout our entire body.

In order for our body to be healthy, it needs to be balanced. The Endocannabinoid System helps our body regulate that balance. When we put bad stuff in our bodies, or neglect to put in the good stuff, we get out of balance. When our bodies are in a state of disease or stress, this means there is an imbalance.

If you think about it, the entire supplement market that’s out there is all based on the fact that our body, in order to be healthy, needs to be put in balance, but because we don’t eat the right foods or ingest the right stuff, we need to supplement with these vitamins and minerals to bring things into balance.

The supplement industry is so huge, and CBD has become such a huge product, because the endocannabinoid system is tied to everything.

Imbalance

When you’re in a normal state of homeostasis, or balance, you’re completely healthy. If you’re deficient or imbalanced, if you have a disease state that is causing a deficiency in your own internal endocannabinoid system, that’s where CBD and hemp oil can come into play.

Even before we discovered it, our body was making its own cannabinoids, but when it’s not making enough, or you have other issues, you get an imbalance of those and other compounds. CBD and hemp help even out imbalances.

THC may cause a high when it works with receptors in the brain, but when you use CBD you can reduce inflammation in the brain and body, and inflammation is a big cause of imbalance.  Once other parts of the body starts to balance, the rest of the body works to get there as well. It’s exciting to see what the future holds. I hope this has helped you understand a little bit more about what the endocannabinoid system is and the promise it holds for the future.
